„Design is not just what it looks like & feels like. Design is how it works“ -Steve Jobs
In the realm of design, Steve Jobs once said, “Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” It’s a quote I keep coming back to. While aesthetics are undeniably powerful, true design goes far beyond appearance. It’s about creating spaces that function well, that support us in the way we live, think and feel.
This idea doesn’t just apply to products or technology. It resonates just as strongly in interior spaces, especially in the context of creativity and innovation.
Recently, I came across studies that explored the impact of playfully arranged environments on our mindset. What stayed with me is how these kinds of spaces seem to loosen the mind. They help us let go of the overly structured, overly polished, and instead invite curiosity. They encourage exploration. Bright colour accents, irregular shapes, unexpected materials. These elements bring in a certain spontaneity that feels refreshingly human.
What I find most inspiring is how these playful environments seem to remove the pressure of perfection. They create room for experimentation, for moments of trial and error, for thinking differently. Whether in a studio, a workspace or even a living room, incorporating a bit of whimsy can shift the whole energy of a space. It becomes not just somewhere to be, but somewhere to think freely.
In the end, design that works is design that moves with us. Functionally, emotionally and creatively.
